Powerful Mind . . .
How does Hypnosis Create Positive Change?
What is Hypnosis, and how can it be utilized to bring more positive change to one's life? First, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. In addition, if you have ever watched a television or a film, you've undoubtedly been hypnotized. . . mostly likely unknowingly! Hypnosis guides the client or student to a completely natural state of consciousness called the subconscious, which is simply a state of deep relaxation in which we are highly suggestible. In this state, through conscious relaxation, visualization, story-telling, and or metaphor techniques, the hypnotist makes positive suggestions to the (directed by the client) client who has outlined their key intentions and goals. Rest assured, while in this hypnotic state no one can take over our free will, and no one can be directed to make a change with which they are not comfortable. To receive the direction, make the change, the suggestions must be in alignment with the client's intent.
Our beautiful subconscious orchestrates for our highest and greatest good. It is our autonomic nervous system which beats our heart approximstely 86,100 times a day, regulates our respiration , modulates blood pressure and directs our circulatory system. It quite simply wants more for us! It recalls everything we have ever seen, learned, observed or experienced. It is truly a treasure trove that strives to help us!
While using specific intent with one’s client to implement positive change, releasing negative habits and patterns ... new neuropathways may then be formed! And that desired behavior or feeling will arise more and more. Interestingly, we visit the subconscious at least twice daily whether we are aware of it or not: when we are just falling asleep and when we are waking up. Those times are called the hypnogogic and the hypnopompic states of consciousness. And when we are in this state we are potentially at a very fertile place of suggestibility. This is the land of the subconscious! Another relatable time we have actually been hypnotized is while emersed in a film; we feel so a part of the story through our five senses that we may loose track of time and be moved to myriad emotions as though the event is actually occuring. Similarly, recall the last time you lost track of time while sitting perusing the web, or think "highway hypnosis." But, as stated earlier the client must be receptive to this change for the suggestions to take hold.
The subconscious speaks the language of the five senses and is rooted in the present. Now, now, now! The subconscious mind is unable to understand negatives such as the words, "not," "don't," "can't," "won't." It only wants more, more, more. When something is asked of the subconscious mind, say even in self-talk in our heads and it is in the negative, the mind will simply drop the negative. For example, if the self talk is, "I will not eat candy this week," all the subconscious is hearing is, "I will eat candy!" For this very reason we, "take out the nots!" The positive suggestions the client intends to bring forth in her life are emphasized by the hypnotist, with the knowledge that the client's brilliant subconscious mind has the power and will to bring this forth when ready. The power is truly with the client. The subconscious (which is also the body) is striving to piece together the best life for the client.

How Hypnosis May Be Helpful:
Hypnosis & Yoga
In this format, unique to Greenleaf Yoga , the gifts yoga affords, such as mindfulness, greater control and awareness over the breath, an invitation to learn the language of the body (sensation~ which is innate in all human beings), and movement, the worlds of hypnosis and yoga are woven together.
If you have ever been in a yoga class or a guided meditation or visualization class, you were undoubtedly lead to a deeply relaxing, yet awake state where you could hear the voice of the instructor, but at times you may have drifted in and out~this is the subconscious state. This is where you will be lead while in your Hypnosis Session. The difference between guided relaxation or meditation and hypnosis is that while in that dreamy place, positive changes the client wishes to achieve will be suggested, and negative behaviors and thought patterns will be subdued. While in this deeply relaxing place you are guided to experience what it feels, tastes, sounds and looks like when you have already achieved you predetermined goals.
After the hypnosis session, you will be given homework because the effects of the hypnosis will last up to 72 hours, but additional practice will be crucial, and perhaps subsequent visits. Once a client has been successfully in the hypnotic state it will be very easy and natural to get there, time and time again, in the same way meditation gets more and more natural with practice.
